SPECTO offers component repair, overhaul, painting and lifespan extension of an extended range of structural composite, sheet-metal components and hybrid assemblies for primary- and secondary aircraft and helicopter components, both from the two maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) locations in Lelystad and Woensdrecht and in the field.     Thesis

    SPECTO’s facility at Amsterdam Lelystad Airport primarily focusses on composite repairs related to fixed wing aircraft. Here, the main customers can be divided into three segments: original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Aircraft & Component MROs and operators.

    For SPECTO, the process starts with a job request from a customer. After this, the Engineering Department assesses the received goods and defines  the type of resources which are necessary to complete a repair. Five M’s are analysed here. Firstly, the required Materials, where the materials not available from stock should be ordered. Secondly, the required Manpower is analysed and should be planned. Other M’s include Machines, Methods & Money. Then, Sales generate the quote for the customer and defines the turnaround time (TAT). This TAT or lead time covers the period between receiving the customer order acknowledgement up to the delivery to the customer and is related to all supply chain partners such as supplier, SPECTO and customer. Here, the challenge is that the TAT is too much an unpredictable process and should be made more manageable. This all should result in an even better level of customer satisfaction and a more efficient operation.

    Besides this, customers have not enough insights about the actual status of the repair process. Modification moments within the process cannot easily be traced in real time. SPECTO wants to standardize and organize its process in such a way that the predicted TAT of Sales is always accurate without delays and that customers can track the process and rely on SPECTO’s promises. As a result, SPECTO Aerospace wants to get a competitive advantage towards other players in the field having a better TAT then everyone else.
